SkillFoundry
Your best engineer couldn't pass your own interview
Algorithm puzzles test memorization, and AI can solve them anyway. SkillFoundry gives candidates a real task in a real open-source codebase, with an AI assistant at their side, and measures how they work. Sometimes that assistant is wrong on purpose: we plant a subtle flaw in a suggestion and tell you whether the candidate caught it or shipped it. You get a hiring report with timestamped evidence, not a pass/fail score.
Hey Product Hunt, maker here.
A while back I was interviewing for engineering roles, and round after round turned into "invert this binary tree." In 8 years as an engineer I have never had to do that at work. None of it showed whether I could actually do the job.
So I built SkillFoundry, partly out of spite.
Instead of puzzles, candidates get a real task in a real open-source codebase, in the browser or in their own VS Code. While they work, SkillFoundry captures how they work: how they explore unfamiliar code, what they ask (there's an AI customer and TPM to clarify requirements with), how they test, and how they handle risk. The hiring team gets a report where every score is backed by timestamped evidence.
Two things I cared about:
- Tasks are already-solved open-source issues, so no candidate does free work for an employer.
- Everyone gets a fair shot, whether or not they've memorized algorithms.
For the PH community the first 25 companies get the Team plan free for 90 days. No card required to signup. Really just need some real feedback :)
I'd love honest feedback, especially from anyone who hires engineers. And I'm curious: what's the most useless interview question you've ever been asked?

Who hunted SkillFoundry?
SkillFoundry was hunted by Amichai Shamah. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
