SideQuest

Complete side quests to earn distractions

SideQuest is a focus extension for people who do not want another all-or-nothing website blocker. Instead of simply locking you out, SideQuest adds friction at the exact moment you are about to drift. You choose the sites that tend to pull you away from work, studying, reading, or sleep. When those sites are blocked, SideQuest redirects the tab to a quest page. To continue to the blocked site, you have to complete one of your configured side quests.

Hey Product Hunt, I’m Joe, maker of SideQuest. I built this because I kept running into the same problem with focus tools: hard blockers were useful until I genuinely needed access, and soft reminders were too easy to ignore. SideQuest is my attempt at the middle ground. It does not try to make distraction impossible. It makes it a little more intentional. My hope is that the “earn a pass” model feels more realistic for people who know they will still check distracting sites sometimes, but want a speed bump at the exact moment habit takes over. I’d especially love feedback on the quest types. Right now SideQuest supports reflection prompts, timers, counters, and flashcards, but I’m curious what kinds of side quests would feel useful without becoming annoying.
