Side Eye
Dog-meme habit tracker for people who hate habit apps
A habit tracker for people who've tried every other habit app and quit. Built on Jerry Seinfeld's productivity secret: don't break the chain.
Hey Hackers 👋.
I built Side Eye, a dog-meme habit tracker, after trying a bunch of habit trackers on the App Store and quitting all of them. I tried the big ones. Apple's award-winning ones. Gamified ones. I'd stick to them for a week, then quietly stop using them.
Eventually I went back to a small whiteboard. Which you can see in the demo.
I noticed my partner, who also tracks her habits, had the same issue. So I thought hard about why a whiteboard works but so many habit trackers don't. I boil it down to: focus & simplicity.
a) You want to spend as little time as possible using the habit tracker, so you spend more time actually doing the habits.
b) Be as visual as possible, so you can see your week's performance.
That's what a whiteboard does. And that's what Side Eye does too.
The app is completely free to use besides the AI features. I tried to use Apple's on-device LLM to run insights, but it just doesn't work that well.
The insights can tell you why your habits worked, why they didn't, how they link to other habits, and surface some geeky patterns.
p.s. something weird I noticed. All apps on my iPhone are a bit too safe. So I knowingly made it meme-style to keep staring at you. I was worried about App Store rejection, but luckily it went through. I had many friends asking me "what's this doggie thing on your phone?" lol.
