Shelly

Run OpenAI Codex CLI natively on Android

Shelly runs the OpenAI Codex CLI natively on Android — no PC, no Termux, no proot. It pairs a real native terminal with an Agent Chat pane that reads Codex output live and runs fixes with one tap. A home-screen Scouter widget shows quota, cost and rate limits, and lets you fire prompts straight from the home screen. Local LLMs (Qwen3.5 + llama.cpp) supported. Open source, GPLv3. Built entirely by directing AI agents — I don't write the code myself.

Maker here. I'm a creative director who can't write production code. Shelly is what happened when I stopped trying to learn Kotlin and instead directed Codex to build a native Android terminal for itself. The hardest part wasn't the terminal — it was making the Z Fold stop breaking the layout. Happy to answer anything.

Who hunted Shelly?

Shelly was hunted by RYO ITABASHI. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
