I had a single-node balance service that I kept copying from project to project, which got tiring, so I decided to make it into a SaaS, and one thing after another, I ended up making it into a cross-regional replicated distributed system. One of the design points was making it so that I can just delete or add a node without any damage to the ledger. So, here we are, hope it's useful to someone else :)
