Shake It On
Keep your Mac wide awake
Shake It On is a macOS menu bar app that keeps your Mac awake by organically and naturally moving the mouse cursor. Set smart conditions (CPU usage, running apps, Wi-Fi, audio, display) and pause triggers (battery, camera, Focus mode) for when to shake. It even works when IT has locked Energy Saver. $9.99, one time purchase.
My Macs would fall asleep during stuff like long renders, remote desktop sessions, stuff like that.
Setting Energy Saver to "Never" works, but then I'd forget to switch it back.
Also sometimes I wanted to set it do it on a schedule and stuff, or only during certain conditions, etc.
Also I have a problem where I can't help but go 0-100 on every idea I have 😅 lol
So instead of doing what a sane person would do and just use the built-in system stuff or make an automation or something...
...I built an app that moves the cursor on intervals with smooth, natural motion powered by sine waves and layers of random noise functions.
...and then I added a bunch of conditions and scheduling options and stuff to make it more flexible and only "shake" when you actually want it to/need it to.
...and then I named it after a legendary Taylor Swift song because life is short and the world is chaos. Shout out to my fellow Swifties.
Also after building it and looking into it more I saw folks posting complaints around this sort of stuff in corporate environments.
IT often locks down sleep settings with MDM, so folks can't change them. Mouse movement seems to (sometimes) be treated differently in some cases. macOS treats it as real user activity (again, sometimes) regardless of what policies are in place.
Anyways its $9.99 one-time.
Happy to answer any questions about how it works or the process of building/launching it, etc.
Thanks so much for reading and your time, happy shaking! 🪇
