Had this idea for a long while, even had a prototype built years ago in php. But given the rise of agentic programming, I set to work building again in the modern stack.
What is it:
A meal planning app with 2 key features that differentiate this from other meal planning apps.
1. It’s based on your own meals, those you and your family actually cook. Not a list of aspirational meals you’re unlikely to make the effort with on a random Tuesday evening.
2. It randomises your meal plan for the week. Overcoming the decision making process and speeding up meal planning.
How i did this:
A hands-off approach code-wise, but I spent my time on this project orchestrating, refining features and user story’s for agentic development. Acting as architect and gate-keeper for a clean, tested and performant code-base. Almost 300 stories later and I have a working product. Agentic AI speeds up development, but it’s still a big effort to make a project that isn’t a vibe-coded mess that isn’t ripe for production.
Key challenge:
A real hurdle with meal planning apps is the upfront effort required for users to be able to begin - logging every meal they might cook complete with ingredients. I’ve tried to simplify the onboarding with public started collections of recipes and guest account views.
I’d appreciate some eyes on this project, feedback on usability, design and whether it’s different enough to exist in the saturated meal planning arena.
