Seamless Region Search
Alt+drag any text to search it, right where you are
Hold Alt and drag over any part of a web page. The text inside is searched instantly, and results pop up right beside your selection, no new tab. Preview pages in place, pin popups, edit your query. Free; bring your own Brave Search API key.
Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm a freelance developer from Japan, and this is a small tool I built for myself.
**The problem:** I'm reading something, hit a term I don't know, and the usual routine is select, right-click, search, new tab, and then I've lost my place. Google Lens-style region search was too heavy for "I just want to check one thing."
**What it does:** Hold Alt (Option on Mac), drag over any part of a page, and the text inside is searched. Results show up in a small popup right beside your selection.
- Click a result to preview the page inside the popup (simplified reader view), still no new tab
- Open several popups at once, move and resize them, pin the ones you want to keep
- Edit the search terms and re-run, one-tap copy for the query and each URL
- English and Japanese UI
**One thing to know up front:** it's free, but search runs on the Brave Search API with *your own* API key (bring-your-own-key). Brave has a monthly free credit that covers casual use, but signing up requires a credit card on their side. In exchange, there's no server of mine in the middle: your selected text goes only to Brave, nothing is stored or collected, and results are kept in memory only.
**Current limits:** it reads text that exists in the page's DOM, so text inside images isn't detected yet (OCR is the obvious next step). The in-popup preview is a simplified view and won't work on login-only or heavily JavaScript-rendered pages; there's always a button to open the original.
Question for you: what's the last thing you looked up that made you leave the page you were on? I'd love to hear which situations you'd want this for, and what you'd want it to do that it doesn't.

Rules reminder: do not ask anyone to upvote (visit and comment is fine). Reply to comments through the day; most of the traffic lands during the US daytime, which is overnight in Japan.
