ScreenForge

Record, auto-zoom & edit pro screen videos on Mac and Linux

Auto-polished screen recordings plus a real timeline editor, in one native app for Mac and Linux. Hit record, talk it through, and get a finished video: zooms that follow your clicks and typing, a smooth cursor and clean backgrounds. Your voice lands on its own track, so you can split it, trim the ums, move or mute it without touching the video. Export MP4, ProRes, GIF or WebM up to 4K. Written 100% in Rust, open source, GPU-rendered, free to record and edit.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Mehfuz, maker of ScreenForge.

I record a lot of product demos and tutorials, and I kept ending up with two apps: Screen Studio for the polish (auto-zooms, smooth cursor, nice backgrounds) and CapCut for the real editing (cutting mistakes, fixing the voice-over, re-timing). Every demo meant exporting from one, importing into the other, and losing the polish the moment I needed a real edit. So I set out to build the best of both in one app, free to record and edit, and fully open source. It even opens your existing .screenstudio projects.

What you get:
🎯 Auto-polish: zooms follow your clicks and typing with smooth spring animation, plus a smoothed cursor, backgrounds, padding and shadow. Every zoom is a block on the timeline you can tweak or delete.
🎙️ Voice split: your voice lives on its own track. Split it, trim the "ums", move it, mute it or speed it up without touching the video. Re-time a demo without re-recording.
✂️ A real timeline: cuts, speed changes, background music, undo/redo, keyboard shortcuts.
💻 Cross-platform: native on macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux (X11 and Wayland, .deb or tarball). Same app, same projects.
⚡ Fast: written 100% in Rust, GPU-rendered with wgpu. No Electron. Export MP4 (H.264/HEVC), ProRes, GIF or WebM up to 4K.

It's open source (Apache-2.0). Recording and editing are free forever, your first three exports are free, and after that it's $10/month or $29 once for a lifetime key, checked offline. No account, no phone-home. Product Hunt folks get $5 off with PRODUCTHUNT5.

Still early: webcam, captions and masks are next on the roadmap. I'd love to hear what you'd record with it and what's missing for your workflow. I'll be here all day answering questions!
