MovieMap

Where films and TV were actually shot, on one map

Where was it filmed? MovieMap maps 7,472 real filming locations in 133 countries, joined to the 14,533 films and series shot at them. Search a title and the map rings every place it was shot; click a place and see everything filmed there, with a photo. Every pin is a "filming location" statement on Wikidata, not a guess, and shoots recorded only as a country are printed as text instead of faked with a pin. Free, no signup, no ads.

I got tired of googling "where was this filmed" and landing on listicles, so I made the map instead. 7,472 places, 14,533 films and series.

Every pin is a "filming location" statement on Wikidata, the photos come from Wikimedia Commons, and each card links back to the item it came from so you can check any of it. Nothing was scraped off a listicle and nothing was written by a model.

That cuts both ways. Gladiator has no location recorded on Wikidata at all, so it is not on the map. Lawrence of Arabia has one pin, London, because the desert work is filed only as "Jordan" and "Morocco", and I am not going to drop a dot in the middle of a country and call it a place. 2,238 productions have at least one shoot like that, and those get printed as text instead.

A few I liked finding: Pinewood Studios has 673 productions on it. Dubrovnik has Game of Thrones, The Last Jedi and Robin Hood. Skellig Michael is there for one film.

Free, no signup, no ads. There is also a page for every film and every location if you would rather read than pan around.

Tell me what is missing. If it is missing here it is usually missing on Wikidata, and that is fixable.

Who hunted MovieMap?

MovieMap was hunted by Mr. Flightmussy. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
