Hey PH! 👋 I'm Szabolcs, the developer of Scamtinel.
I built this because my parents kept forwarding me links asking "is this safe?", and I kept saying the same things: don't click it, let me check. VirusTotal is great but completely overwhelming for non-technical people. Built-in browser warnings only catch the obvious stuff. Nothing helped them in the moment, silently, without friction.
So I built Scamtinel. The core is a free Chrome extension that checks every link against known safe and known dangerous sites automatically:
✅ Whitelisted (known safe) → loads normally, no interruption
🚫 Blacklisted (known threat) → blocked before the page loads
❓ Unknown → this is where it gets interesting
For unknown links - the grey zone where most scams live - there's a paid feature: Ask a trusted person. Your parent clicks a link that's not on any list. Instead of guessing, they tap one button and their trusted contact (you, their son or daughter or just friend, trusted IT expert) gets a notification on their phone. You review it and give a thumbs up or thumbs down. They get an instant answer.
No tech knowledge required on their end. No more "just forward it to me and wait."
