Santoka Alarm started from a simple frustration: every alarm sound is designed to stress you into waking up. I wondered — what if the first thing you heard each day was a poem instead?
Taneda Santoka was a wandering monk-poet who wrote 701 free-verse haiku about grass, water, and walking alone. His words are short enough to catch half-asleep, and deep enough to stay with you all day.
Fun fact from analyzing all 701 poems: "grass" appears in 52 of them — more than any other word. And he mentions "water" more often than "sake," despite his reputation as a drinker.
Technical notes: built with SwiftUI + AlarmKit (so it fires reliably even in silent mode), voices generated with ElevenLabs.
