I built Rough Cut Builder after seeing how much repetitive setup goes into the first assembly of projects with long, chronological footage.
The tool reads eligible Media Pool clips in filename order, distributes them across an exact target duration, and creates a new video-only rough-cut timeline in DaVinci Resolve. A dry-run mode lets editors review the planned order and trims before creating anything, while existing timelines and source clips remain untouched.
It is designed for documentary, event, travel, and observational editors who want to reach a workable starting point faster—not to replace editorial judgment with AI.
I tested it with DaVinci Resolve Studio 21. The launch price is $19 for a single-user commercial license with instant download.
