If you use Telegram you know the round video messages, the "circles". They are fun to record and completely unshareable anywhere else: saving one gives you a square file with the circle sitting on a white background.
I got tired of that, so I built Rondo. You pick a saved circle (or record a new one right in the app), and it puts the video on a background that actually looks good: a soft blur of the video itself, or any color. Then you export a square, a 9:16 for Stories and Reels, or a normal full-frame video. It can also listen to the speech in your circle and turn it into styled captions you can edit.
A few things I care about:
- Everything runs on your phone. No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. The only network call in the whole app is optional: if you turn on captions, the audio goes to Apple for speech recognition, and you approve that first.
- The free version works forever. Pro is a single $3.99 purchase that removes the watermark and unlocks 9:16, custom colors, and captions. No subscription.
- It is a small, focused tool. It does one thing and tries to do it really well.
The app speaks English, Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish, and on those storefronts it even has its own localized name.
