Revela

A film camera for iPhone that makes you wait for the lab

Revela is a film camera that lives in your phone. Pick a roll from a fridge of twelve original stocks, shoot it with no preview, then mail it to the lab and wait: an hour, overnight, or days. When the envelope arrives, pull the seal and see your photos for the first time. Prints develop from RAW with per-stock curves, grain and halation, and save to Photos at full resolution. Casual mode skips the wait. One price, no subscription, no account.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Blaine. I make apps on my own, and Revela is the one I wanted for myself. Every film app I tried was a filter. You take the photo, see it instantly, and it looks a little warmer. What I missed about film was never the look alone. It was not knowing. You shot 24 frames, dropped the roll off, and a week later you opened an envelope and found out what you had. So Revela makes you do that. You pick a roll from a fridge of twelve stocks: slide film, drugstore color negative, black and white, and cine stocks that shoot 24 or 18 fps reels. In Honest Mode there is no preview and no switching stocks mid-roll. When you finish, you mail it to the lab and choose Rush (one hour), overnight, or days. Then the envelope lands on your shelf and you pull the seal. The look matters too. Frames are captured RAW and developed with per-stock curves, layered grain, halation and bloom, then saved to Photos at full resolution. If you just want the look, Casual mode skips the wait. The app is set in a studio that grows as you use it: plants, a radio, a dog. After three rolls a darkroom opens where you can develop photos from your own library into any stock. You can also AirPlay a finished roll to the TV for a projector night. It's $7.99 once. No subscription, no account, nothing leaves your device. A question for you: how long would you actually be willing to wait for your photos? An hour, a night, or the full three days?

Who hunted Revela?

Revela was hunted by Blaine Miller. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
