Restar

Housing market data for 993 US metros, free for limited time

Screen 993 US metros, 3,221 counties and 33,791 ZIPs on price-to-rent, cap rate, rent growth, affordability and inventory, then compare your finalists side by side. One finding: of the 743 metros where we hold both a typical home value and a typical rent, exactly 2 still clear the old 1% rule. Data from Zillow, Census, BLS, HUD, FHFA, Redfin and FEMA, credited on every page.

Maker here. I built this after wasting months picking rental markets from podcasts and forum threads, where the same five cities get named regardless of what the numbers say.

The stat that made me finish it: of the 743 US metros where we hold both a typical home value and a typical rent, exactly 2 still clear the old 1% rule. Meridian, Mississippi and Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. A heuristic half of real estate social media still quotes now describes almost nowhere.

Two things I would rather say up front than have found. Each market carries its own most recently published figure, so values range from 31 May to 30 July 2026 rather than being one snapshot, and every row shows its own date.

Market pages are free and need no account. Happy to answer anything on methodology or the gaps.
