RepoRelay

Give AI access to your repo — not your machine.

RepoRelay is an open-source MCP bridge that lets ChatGPT inspect one approved local repository without giving it shell access or unrestricted filesystem access. Read and search code while keeping secrets and the rest of your machine out of bounds.

Top comment

I built RepoRelay because I wanted ChatGPT to inspect my local code without giving it broad access to my machine.

RepoRelay is an open-source MCP bridge that exposes only one explicitly approved repository through a small, constrained tool surface. It can read and search code, while things like shell access, arbitrary filesystem access, Git operations, and secrets remain out of bounds.

I’d especially appreciate feedback on two things:

  • whether the security model feels understandable and useful

  • whether the onboarding is simple enough for someone who hasn’t used MCP tunnels before

If you try it, let me know where you get stuck or what you’d change.

Who hunted RepoRelay?

RepoRelay was hunted by Lukie. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
