Rendezvous

Serverless, Zoom-like video conferencing

Rendezvous is a serverless, Zoom-like video conferencing web app. No signup, no backend, no install, just a static webpage. The meeting host's browser acts as a relay for chat and video, so you can host meetings straight from a browser tab. Open source (MIT).

Hey everyone, I'm the maker of Rendezvous. I built this because I was curious how far you can push WebRTC without any backend, and it turned out more usable than I expected. How it works: there's no application server. The meeting host's browser acts as a relay hub for chat messages and video streams, so each participant only connects to the host instead of every other peer. PeerJS handles the initial WebRTC signaling and that's the only server-ish thing involved. The whole app is a static site on GitHub Pages. What it's good for: small meetings e.g. 1-on-1s, pair programming, quick team syncs. No signup, no accounts, just share a 6-letter code or a link. What it's not good for (yet): big meetings. The host's upstream bandwidth caps the meeting size, and forwarding tracks through a browser tab isn't great for video quality. So don't try to run a 50-person all-hands on it. Would love your feedback, especially: - Where do you see this being useful? - Any obvious downsides to the host-as-relay approach? - Bugs / weird browser behaviour if you try the demo Thanks for taking a look!

Who hunted Rendezvous?

Rendezvous was hunted by Wenhao Ji. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
