I built Remote Terminal because getting to my own machine from my phone always cost more than the task was worth. SSH means port forwarding or a VPN. Remote desktop apps give you a 4K screen shrunk onto a 6-inch display, and you end up pinch-zooming to hit a button.
So this is the opposite approach: instead of streaming the screen, it gives the phone native controls for the things you actually want to do remotely.
A real terminal — CMD or PowerShell on Windows, your shell on macOS. An actual PTY, not a command box: interactive prompts, arrow keys, Ctrl+C all work.
A real file manager — browse, upload, download, delete, zip and unzip, and copy/cut/paste between folders. Transfers go up to 300 MB with live progress, and they keep running while you switch to the terminal.
Clipboard sync — copy on the desktop, paste on the phone, and back.
System stats — CPU, memory, storage and network at a glance.
The part I care most about: there's nothing to configure on your network. The desktop agent makes an outbound connection, so no port forwarding, no VPN, no firewall rules. You pair by scanning a QR code, or by typing a 9-digit session ID and a join password. It works the same on your home desktop and a server in a datacentre.
It runs as a web app, so you can try it in your phone's browser without installing anything, and there are Android and iOS apps too. The desktop agent is Windows and macOS.
I'd genuinely like to hear where it falls short — especially from anyone managing machines they can't easily VPN into. What would you need before you'd trust it with a real box?
