Recora Screen
The screen recorder you can edit with Claude or Codex
Recora Screen is a free, open-source macOS recording studio that keeps capture and editing in one local workflow. Record your screen, camera, microphone and system audio on separate tracks. Turn clicks, drags and typing into editable zooms, trim timed text, images and blur on the timeline, transcribe locally with Whisper, and let Claude or Codex create projects, apply reviewable edits and export through MCP. Projects stay on your Mac; export up to 4K.
Hi Product Hunt — I’m Serkan, the maker of Recora Screen.
I built it because screen recording and video editing often feel like two separate jobs. Recora keeps them in one local macOS studio: record screen, camera, microphone and system audio on separate tracks, then shape the result with editable zooms, timed layers, captions and a visual timeline.
The part I’m most excited about is MCP. You can connect Claude or Codex and ask it to create a project, edit the timeline, inspect a preview or export a video. Those actions use the same validated commands as the app, with revision checks and undo.
Transcription can run locally with Whisper. Silence suggestions are reviewed before they change anything. The optional in-app assistant uses your own OpenAI or Anthropic key.
Recora Screen is free, MIT licensed and currently available for Apple silicon Macs on macOS 15+. I’d love to know which repetitive editing task you would hand to an assistant first.
