Word-by-word highlighting, 0.5x–2x speed, free MP3 download, 20,000 chars/day. No signup, no credit card, no $139/year subscription trap. Built for students, writers, dyslexic and ADHD readers, language learners, and anyone whose eyes are tired by 4pm. Just paste and listen.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Turan, co-founder of Read Aloud Reader.
This project started from a stupid amount of frustration. I read a lot online — articles, research, drafts — and my eyes are usually fried by mid-afternoon. Every TTS tool I tried either:
• Cost $99–$139/year (Speechify, NaturalReader)
• Sounded like a robot reading a takeout menu (browser defaults)
• Required signup, credit card, or a 7-day trial that quietly billed you
So we built the version we actually wanted to use: paste any text, pick a voice, listen. Free. No account.
**What's under the hood:**
• 6 premium AI voices (OpenAI's latest TTS engine)
• Word-by-word highlighting — huge for focus, especially for ADHD/dyslexic readers
• Speed control 0.5x–2x (most people land at 1.25x–1.5x)
• MP3 download for offline listening
• 20,000 characters/day, free forever
**Who's actually using it:**
Students turning PDFs into audio for studying. Writers proofreading by ear (catches typos your eyes glide over). Dyslexic and ADHD readers. Language learners checking pronunciation. Commuters and parents who want their reading list to play hands-free.
**What's next:**
• More voices and languages
• Browser extension for one-click reading on any webpage
• PDF upload that handles long documents cleanly
I'd love your feedback — especially if you find a use case I haven't thought of, or a voice that doesn't quite work for you. Drop a comment, I'm here all day.
Thanks for checking it out 🙏
