Quilpen
Academic writing AI where every citation opens its source.
Most AI writing tools hand you a citation that looks perfect and points to nothing. Quilpen writes from your own PDF library instead — scans included — so every citation opens the exact page it came from.
Hi Product Hunt
I kept catching AI writing tools inventing sources. Not paraphrasing badly
inventing. Real-sounding author, real-sounding journal, page number and all,
pointing to an article that was never published. For academic work that isn't a
small flaw, it's disqualifying. So Quilpen doesn't write from what a model remembers. You upload your own PDFs including scans; many of my own sources are scanned Ottoman era works no database has. It reads them, builds your outline from what's actually in them, and writes with citations that stay attached to their origin. Click any citation
and the source PDF opens on that page.
The part I'm most careful about is what happens when it can't be sure. It marks
whether it located the printed page number, only the PDF page, or neither —
instead of guessing. A tool promising it's never wrong about citations would be
making exactly the mistake it exists to fix. What changed my approach: I wrote a 264-page book with it and then checked every page by hand. That surfaced 8 distinct classes of defect, and fixing them is most of what the last months were.
Free tier is real. Happy to answer anything especially the sceptical
questions, those are the useful ones.
