Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm the creator of QuietSwitch.
The idea came from a surprisingly embarrassing moment.
I often run multiple coding tasks with Codex in parallel, and when a task finishes, I play the classic "Mission Accomplished" sound from Red Alert as a notification.
One day, I stepped away from my desk and my Bluetooth headphones disconnected without me noticing.
Meanwhile, several Codex tasks started finishing.
Suddenly, from my laptop speakers in the office:
"Mission Accomplished."
A few minutes later:
"Mission Accomplished."
And then again:
"Mission Accomplished."
At that point, everyone around me was looking at my computer.
That's when I realized macOS automatically switches audio back to the built-in speakers when headphones disconnect, but it doesn't automatically mute.
So I built QuietSwitch.
It's intentionally simple. When audio falls back from headphones to your Mac's speakers, QuietSwitch automatically mutes your Mac before anything can play out loud.
No Dock icon.
No complicated setup.
No audio recording.
No data collection.
Just one small utility that solves one very specific problem.
I'd love to hear your feedback, especially if you've ever experienced unexpected speaker playback on your Mac.
Thanks for checking it out!
