Quietra started with one sentence I kept hearing from people with tinnitus: the quieter the room, the louder the ring. Bedtime is the worst part of their day, and the apps they tried either stopped when the screen locked or sold a $500 "course". So I built a small, honest one for that one job: find the pitch of the ring in about two minutes (per ear if they differ), then fill the silence with a soundscape tuned to that pitch, playing through the lock screen and calls until a timer fades it out.
Then the same sound engine turned out to work just as well at a desk, and it became a second mode. Focus: eight modes built on published research, each labeled with its evidence level. A pomodoro timer drives the session and the sound follows it into breaks. Deep Techno, Drum & Bass, lo-fi and drone are synthesized live on the device, so no two sessions sound the same. The sound adapts to your room, your hearing (the AirPods hearing test from Health) and the time of day.
