Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Max, a solo dev from France, and I built QR Code Smart out of pure frustration.
**The story**
A few months ago I needed to print a WiFi QR code for guests at my place. Simple, right? I went through 6 "free" generators. Every single one had a catch:
- One required signup just to download a PNG
- One stamped its logo on my QR
- One generated a "dynamic" QR that silently routed through their domain — meaning they could track every scan AND revoke my QR if I didn't pay
- One literally said the QR would "expire after 14 days" unless I subscribed for $12/month
I'm a developer, so I checked what these services were actually doing. The truth: 90% of QR generators online today encode a redirect through their own server, not your actual URL. You think your QR points to yoursite.com — but it points to qr-tracker.io/abc123, which then redirects (and logs IP, device, location).
So I built the generator I wanted to exist.
**What QR Code Smart does**
- 100% free, forever (and I mean it — no trial, no "pro" tier hidden behind a paywall)
- No signup, no email, no account
- Zero tracking — everything is generated client-side in your browser
- Static QR codes only: your data is encoded directly in the pattern, no third-party redirect
- Works offline once the page is loaded
- Exports: PNG, SVG, PDF, JPEG (with custom colors and transparent background)
- Dedicated builders for: WiFi, vCard, business card, restaurant menu, PDF link, plain URL
**Why "static only"?**
Most paid services push "dynamic" QR codes because that's where the recurring revenue is. But for 90% of real-world use cases (business cards, WiFi for guests, restaurant menus, event flyers), a static QR is strictly better:
- It works forever, even if my site disappears
- It can't be revoked or held hostage
- No one can track who scanned what
- It works offline
If you genuinely need analytics on a campaign, fair enough — use a paid dynamic service. But you shouldn't have to pay $20/month for a freaking WiFi QR.
**Tech stack**
React + Vite, qrcode.js for the encoding, jsPDF for PDF export, all rendered in-browser. Supabase only powers a global "QR codes generated" counter (just for fun — no per-user data is stored).
**What I'd love from you**
- Try it out and tell me if anything breaks
- Suggest formats or use cases I missed
- Roast the design, the copy, anything
- If it saved you time, sharing the link is the kindest thing you can do 🙏
