Who hunted Puddle?
Puddle was hunted by Richie Zheng. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community. Over the last couple of months, my two friends and I, all 16 or 17, have been building Puddle as a passion project.
It now includes more than 30 million places with images and map information.
The idea came from something pretty simple: my friends and I were constantly saying we wanted to go somewhere, but we never really knew where to go. At the same time, so much social media is designed to keep us scrolling, so we wanted to experiment with something that does the opposite and helps people discover places around them.
So far, Puddle has reached around 9,000 visits and 250 monthly users without us really promoting it. We’re still building and changing a lot, so I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback on the idea, design, or things you think we should improve.
