We were inspired by a glaring hypocrisy in the cybersecurity industry: the very tools designed to protect users had become one of the biggest threats to their privacy. Over our years working in deeptech, we looked closely at how mainstream consumer security apps operated. We saw that under the guise of "cloud-based threat analysis," these companies were routinely harvesting personal files, app usage statistics, and device data—often monetizing it through third-party data brokers or ad networks. As security professionals, we found ourselves in a frustrating position: we couldn't in good conscience recommend any existing mobile antivirus to our own friends and family because the "cure" had become worse than the disease. We were inspired by the technical challenge of completely reversing this model. We wanted to prove that you don't need to surrender your personal data to be safe. We spent the last five years building our technology base to demonstrate that, with the right engineering, you can run powerful, enterprise-grade threat detection entirely on the edge device. Ultimately, our inspiration was to build the security tool we desperately wanted for ourselves—one where privacy is the absolute default, and where the user is treated as a customer to protect, rather than a product to mine.
