I started Prexi from a client perspective. I’d had bad experiences trying to find a good barber because discovery was inconsistent, and I realized there wasn’t really a reliable way to find the right professional. But once I got into the industry and started researching, I realized the problem was much bigger. There are already some huge companies serving this industry, yet none of them have really become a household name. Everyone is competing for the same market, while the actual experience remains incredibly fragmented. That’s when I started talking to professionals. And the deeper I went, the bigger the rabbit hole became. It took me over two years of conversations with nearly 2,000 professionals, clients, students, school owners, salon owners, and other people across the industry to understand what was actually missing. I didn’t want to build another app around an assumption, I wanted to understand the problems first and then build around them. One thing became especially clear to me: these are some of the hardest-working people I’ve ever met. Many enter this career because they want freedom, but the reality often doesn’t give them that. Almost everyone I spoke with knew someone who had left the industry within their first few years because of exhaustion and burnout. By that point, I had genuinely fallen in love with the industry. I knew I wanted to build something for the people who make it what it is. The more conversations we had, the more we understood what needed to exist. We built the web app, tested and validated it with schools, professionals, and salon owners, and used that feedback to keep evolving the product. Now we’re building the native app for the public launch. The vision is simple: build the connected infrastructure the industry has been missing, so professionals and clients don’t have to piece their experience together across a dozen different apps.
