Presso
Compress videos, images, GIFs & PDFs on Mac. Free, no limit.
A native Mac app that compresses videos, images, GIFs, and PDFs in one queue, 100% offline. Free for unlimited files with safe replacement. Upgrade to Pro once for watched folders, clipboard compression, Shortcuts, and exact MB target sizes.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Trong, the maker of Presso.
Every week I run into the same annoyance on my Mac: a screen recording is too big for Discord's 20 MB limit, a folder of HEIC and PNG exports is eating up disk space, or a scanned PDF contract bounces back from Gmail's 25 MB cap.
Existing options always felt like a compromise:
- Open-source apps are great, but you end up juggling four separate tools (HandBrake for video, ImageOptim for images, Gifski for GIFs, and terminal Ghostscript commands for PDFs).
- Commercial Mac compressors put all formats in one place, but most lock you behind a 5-file-per-day paywall before you can even finish a single folder.
- Online compressors make you upload private files to someone else's server.
So I built Presso, a native SwiftUI app for macOS 13+ (with native Liquid Glass support on macOS 26) that handles all four in one queue.
How it works under the hood:
- 100% offline: It bundles FFmpeg, gifski, pngquant, Ghostscript, and macOS ImageIO compiled from checksum-pinned source. Nothing ever leaves your Mac.
- Safe by default: Each file is written to a temporary staging file first and swaps the original only after a clean finish. If a compressed file ever comes out larger than the source, Presso discards it and keeps your original ("Already optimized").
- Fault-tolerant queue: Drop 200 mixed files at once. Each file runs on its own and reports its own progress, so one bad input never stops the batch.
How Free vs. Pro works:
I wanted the free version to be genuinely useful on its own, not a crippled trial.
- Free forever: Compress unlimited files per batch and per day across all formats (video, images, GIF, PDF), using Smaller, Balanced, or Sharper presets via drag-and-drop or Finder right-click.
- Pro (one-time purchase): Built for hands-off workflows and fine control. You get Watched Folders (with subfolders), a floating drop zone, clipboard compression, a macOS Shortcuts action, two-pass target video sizes
(just type "19 MB" and skip the bitrate math), video-to-GIF, and custom codec/resolution/FPS controls.
Launch week offer:
Pro is a one-time license ($29 for 1 Mac, $39 for up to 3 Macs, including all 1.x updates and a 14-day no-questions-asked refund). Until October 26, code LAUNCH takes $10 off at checkout ($19 Personal / $29 Family).
Download it free at https://presso.bytrong.app and throw your heaviest folder at it. I'll be here all day and would love your feedback or feature requests!

Who hunted Presso?
Presso was hunted by Trong Nguyen. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
