Hi everyone, I’m Gary 👋 Have you ever taken a photo you really liked, but wished the person stood out just a little more? That happened to me a lot. I had older photos, pictures I took in a hurry, and others where I simply wanted to soften the background or make the person feel more like the focus of the image. That’s why I built **Portrait Lens AI**. When I started working on the app, there were three things I really cared about. The first was **privacy**. I’m personally not comfortable uploading private photos to external servers or AI services without really knowing what happens to them afterward. So Portrait Lens AI processes everything directly on your iPhone. **Your images never leave your device.** The second was having **more control**. A lot of apps can blur the background, and that’s useful, but I wanted something more. I wanted to separate the subject from the background and edit each one independently. You can adjust things like brightness, contrast, saturation, shadows, and other image settings without affecting the entire photo. You can also control the blur intensity and the **blur area**, including how much it affects the top or bottom of the image. This is especially useful when you want to keep some of the ground visible and avoid that strange effect where the person looks like they’re floating because everything beneath their feet is blurred. The third thing was **avoiding a paywall the moment you open the app**. I wanted people to actually be able to try Portrait Lens AI and decide for themselves if it’s useful. The free version includes **3 exports per day**. You’ll see a watermark while previewing your edit, but it disappears when you export the final image. If you want to use it more, there are monthly and yearly plans, with launch pricing starting at **$1.99 USD**. I’ve tried to keep the pricing accessible. Subscriptions help me keep the app running, continue improving it, add new features, and keep building other apps like this one. Portrait Lens AI also isn’t limited to traditional photography. It can recognize subjects in **illustrations, drawings, anime, digital art, and generated images**, as long as there’s a clear person or character in the foreground. This is my first product, and I originally built it because it was something I genuinely wanted for myself. It has already helped me go back to older photos I had almost forgotten about and give them a completely different feel. I hope you find it useful too.
