Hi everyone! Portage started in an Airbnb. We had an old Apple TV and couldn't stream from Plex to it, so I built an app that could.

It works with Plex, Emby and Jellyfin. It streams the original file whenever your device can play it, downloads for offline viewing, and converts files on the device for the TV you own.

Then it casts to whatever screen is in front of you: Chromecast, DLNA TVs, AirPlay, or any web browser. Open tv.rikard.dev on a laptop, a hotel TV or a car's screen, enter the code, and it plays, at home or away.

It's free to download, with no account and nothing tracked. I'd love to hear what you'd want next.

Who hunted Portage?

Portage was hunted by Rikard Wissing. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
