Polyglot Subs
Learn languages from the shows you watch in Stremio
Two-language subtitles for Stremio in Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Hebrew and English. Tap any word for its meaning, save it to Anki, and read lines timed to the voices. On Windows, Android phones and TVs. Free.
Hi Product Hunt! Polyglot Subs turns the shows you already watch in Stremio into language lessons. Each line shows in the language you're learning, with your own language under it. Tap any word to see what it means, and save it to Anki.
The part I worked hardest on is timing. The apps listen for when people start speaking (only the timing is sent, never the audio) and line the subtitles up with the voices. If a subtitle file was made for a different cut of the episode, a better one is picked automatically. It also learns as people use it, so episodes start in time more and more often.
It works on Windows (over the Stremio player), Android phones and tablets, and Android TV and Fire TV, for Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Hebrew and English. It's free, and donations keep it running.
I'd love your feedback, especially on shows or languages that don't work well yet.
