Plika
Budget mindfully. Your data stays yours. Pay once.
Plika is a privacy-first personal finance app inspired by the Japanese Kakeibo budgeting philosophy. Your data is encrypted on your device (AES-256) and never touches our servers. Sync via Google Drive, OneDrive, or a local folder—you choose where it lives. Support for 16 languages and 22 currencies makes it ready for anyone. Generate PDF reports, track recurring expenses, and gain visual insights completely offline. No monthly fees. Pay once, use forever.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Benjamin, the solo maker behind Plika.
I got frustrated with budget apps — every option I found either charged $9.99/month just to see my own spending reports, or required handing over my bank credentials to a third party. So I challenged myself to build exactly what I wanted: private, offline-first, pay once and own it forever.
The result isPlika: private by design, yours forever. Your data stays encrypted on your device — local-first, always. You pay once and own it for life. No subscription. No third-party server. No compromise.
Here's what makes it different:
🛡️ Your data never leaves your device — Everything is encrypted client-side with AES-256. We literally cannot read your data, even if we wanted to. 📁 You own your data — Sync via your personal Google Drive, OneDrive, or a local folder on your device. No proprietary cloud. 🌍 Built for inclusivity — Personal finance should feel native to "you": your language, your currency, your script. Plika currently supports 16 languages and 22 currencies, with more on the way. 💳 Pay once, use forever — Try it instantly with the 15-min live demo or our free tier. If you're ready to go further, upgrade to Pro with a true lifetime license. Zero recurring subscriptions!
🤖 The nerdy backstory: I built Plika entirely through AI-assisted development ("vibecoding"). I wanted to push the limits of what's possible when you architect a complex, secure, production-ready TypeScript app with AI as your primary tool. Over 5,000 tests later, I'll let you be the judge of the result.
💛 The personal story: Once I had something I was happy with, I wanted my partner to use it in her native language too — she's Thai, and even though she speaks English and French, I wanted her to have the app feel truly hers, right down to the PDF reports in Thai script. The catch: no popular client-side PDF library handles Thai character shaping correctly out of the box. So I built the engine myself, and eventually open-sourced it as pdfnative.
💡 For the devs: Getting Thai to render correctly in a client-side PDF — with no server, no canvas, no heavy external dependency — turned out to be a genuinely hard problem. Most libraries can embed a Thai font, but won't process the GSUB substitutions and GPOS mark positioning the script requires: glyphs end up misordered or incorrectly spaced. I built the shaping engine from scratch, extracted it, and open-sourced it as a standalone TypeScript library called pdfnative. Plika runs on it today.
This is my first ever launch, and I'm thrilled to share it with you today. I'm ready to answer any questions.
