Written for: Product Hunt visitors and early supporters reading your launch post. Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Nic. I built PlaySprout for my kid. My child has been learning piano and can read what's on the page, but when they heard a tune they loved, they had no idea how to find it on the keys. I looked for an app to help, and most ear-training apps were interval quizzes: tap "major 3rd" or "perfect 5th" on a screen. That's useful theory, but it isn't playing by ear. What I wanted was simple: hear a melody, play it on the real piano. So I built that, and we use it together at the piano: 🎹 Listen: the app sets the key with a cadence, then plays a short phrase. 🎶 Play: your kid plays it back on the real piano. No mic, no score, no pressure. Replay as often as you like, because listening again is part of the training. 👀 Check: tap Show Answer to see the notes, which highlight in time with the music. Phrases are generated from real chord progressions, so there's always a new one and you can't memorize the answers. There are six levels: right-hand melody first, then left-hand chord changes, then both hands with fuller accompaniment. Levels 1–3 are free forever. They make a complete beginner course. Pro unlocks Levels 4–6, and you can pay monthly, yearly (with a 7-day free trial) or once for lifetime. There are no ads, no accounts, and no data leaves the phone. I'd love to hear from other piano parents and teachers. What's the first song your kid or you figured out by ear? 🎵
