I built PlateGuard AI because grocery shopping with a real allergy or condition is genuinely stressful, generic "healthy/unhealthy" scores don't tell you what YOU actually need to know, and reading a full ingredients panel in tiny print in a busy aisle is exhausting.
The idea: set up a health profile once (allergies, conditions, medications, dietary needs), then just point your camera at a label, scan its barcode, or paste the ingredients. You get a 1-5 safety rating in seconds, with the exact ingredient responsible and a plain-English explanation, not just a red or green light.
A few things I'm proud of:
- It reasons about interacting conditions together instead of checking boxes in isolation
- Medicine mode checks OTC/prescription labels against your conditions and other medications
- Multiple people can have their own profile (built this for my own family)
- If one AI provider is rate-limited, it automatically fails over to another instead of just failing
