PlateAPI

Cars, motorcycles, utes, vans -- if it has a plate, we cover it. Free tier: 20 lookups/month, no credit card. Paid plans from A$29/month. Works with any HTTP client in any language -- no SDK required. Includes a 38,000+ vehicle database endpoint for make/model/year dropdowns.

We built PlateAPI because every existing Australian rego lookup API was either absurdly expensive (enterprise pricing for a simple GET request) or required you to jump through hoops with SDKs and onboarding calls. We wanted something a solo developer could sign up for in 30 seconds, get a free API key, and start making requests immediately with curl. One endpoint, structured JSON, all eight states. The main use case is "rego search to garage" for auto parts stores -- customer enters their plate, the store instantly knows the vehicle and filters to compatible parts. But it works for workshops, dealerships, fleet management, and anything else that needs to turn a plate into vehicle data.
