Hey Product Hunt 👋 PlantSmith is a plant identifier that doesn't stop at the name. Most plant apps answer "what is this?" and leave you there. That was never the hard part of keeping a plant alive. The hard part is the week after: how much light does this thing actually want, why are the leaf tips going brown, is that spot a fungus or just sunburn, and when did I last water it. So PlantSmith does three things and tries to do them properly: 🌿 Identify — point your camera at a plant and get the species, its common names and a full profile. If we get it wrong, one tap corrects it so your garden stays accurate. 🩺 Diagnose — photograph a struggling plant and get the likely cause, how bad it is, a step-by-step treatment plan, and the alternative causes we considered so you can sanity-check us. 📋 Care — every species has a pre-written, structured care profile: light, water, soil, humidity, feeding, repotting. Not generated on the fly per request; written to a knowledge base ahead of time so it's consistent and checkable. 203 species so far. Then it holds it together: your garden with your own photos, watering reminders on each plant's own schedule, and a growth timeline. Free, no account required — 20 IDs and 3 diagnoses a day. Pro ($2.99/mo, $19.99/yr) lifts the caps and adds seven specialized ID modes (weeds, insects, birds, trees, mushrooms, toxic plants, allergens) plus a plant advisor you can ask follow-up questions. Three honest notes, because you'll find these anyway: 1. Identification is good but not perfect. On a hard set of real field photos we get the right genus about 83% of the time, and the exact species a lot less often on look-alikes like Echeveria and Philodendron. 2. Point it at something that isn't a plant and the build that's live today will often still hand you a confident species name instead of saying "that's not a plant". We know; the fix is written and in the update that hasn't reached the stores yet. Until it does, that's a real rough edge and I'd rather you hear it from me. 3.
