PizzaRank

30k+ Italian pizzerias and a ranking money can buy!

PizzaRank lists every pizzeria in Italy — all 30K+ of them, built on OpenStreetMap — and ranks them by one thing: how much has been spent on each. Not by taste. There are no reviews, no stars, no jury. Anyone can push a pizzeria up for €1. You don't have to own it: most bids come from customers backing the place around the corner. Owners can claim their page for free, and being listed is free forever. It's a directory that says out loud what every "best of" list hides — the order was paid for.

Hi Product Hunt 👋
I used to make pizza for a living. Now I make websites — and I kept noticing the same thing: every "best pizzerias in town" list is either quietly paid for, or built on reviews nobody can verify. So I built the opposite. PizzaRank lists every pizzeria in Italy — 30K+ of them, from OpenStreetMap, cleaned up by hand — and ranks them by one thing only: how much has been spent on each. Not by taste. No reviews, no stars, no jury, and I don't rank anyone myself.

Anyone can push a place up for €1. You don't have to own it, and most bids so far came from customers backing the pizzeria around the corner. Every bid is public, and each page says exactly what the order cost. Being listed is free and stays free. Owners can claim their page and keep hours, photos and contacts up to date — also free.

Two honest notes: • It's in Italian. It's a directory of Italian pizzerias for people standing in an Italian street, so translating it would be pretending. Have a look anyway — the maps and the numbers travel fine. • It's two weeks old. 13 pizzerias are in the ranking and €16 has been spent in total. This is the very beginning, and I'd rather say the number than imply a bigger one. I also publish the whole derived archive as open data under ODbL, because it came from OpenStreetMap and giving it back is the deal.

The question I can't answer yet, and would genuinely like your take on: does a directory that admits its ranking is paid end up more trusted than the ones that don't?

Who hunted PizzaRank?

PizzaRank was hunted by Stefano Spinella. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
