pixetro/
A retro messenger with no feed, no algorithm, just text
Pixetro is a minimalist, retro-terminal messaging app for people tired of getting pulled into feeds when they just want to text and want an alternative to mainstream communication apps that are too overstimulating and want an app that goes with the user's pace and not spam with notifications. Direct messages and groups, voice and video calls, plus optional Focus, Away and Quiet modes. Free on Google Play and the web.
I kept opening Instagram just to text a friend and ending up watching reels for 40 minutes. The problem isn't only social media. Mainstream messaging apps are overstimulating too: bright, busy interfaces, and notifications that keep pulling your attention back even after you've closed the app. So I built a messenger with no feed, no algorithm and nothing to scroll. Just communication.
What's in it:
Direct messages and group chats
Voice and video calls
Scheduled messages
Optional Focus, Away and Quiet modes, so you decide when to be reachable
A retro terminal look, designed to be low-stimulation
It's built by one person, so you may hit a bug. Please tell me when you do. I'd also like to hear what you think about the modes. Do you want fewer notifications, or not?
Available for free on Google Play.
