Pixel Chain is a pixel-art editor with one rule: from the second cell on, a color is legal only if SHA-256 of everything you've painted plus that color ends in enough trailing zero bits. Level 1 needs 11, level 10 needs 20 — each level roughly halves what survives. Every stroke sweeps all 16,777,216 RGB values and hands you the nearest color the chain will accept. The seed is only width, height and level, so the same piece rebuilds the same chain on anyone's phone.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 Pixel Chain is cryptographic art. No tokens, no blockchain — just SHA-256 standing between you and every color you want to use. In most pixel editors you pick a color and it appears. Here you pick a color and the app tells you no. From the second cell onward, a color is legal only if SHA-256(everything painted so far + that candidate) ends in enough trailing zero bits. Level 1 demands 11 of them. Level 10 demands 20. That filter is brutal. At level 1 roughly 8,192 colors survive out of all 16,777,216 — 99.95% rejected, one in two thousand. At level 10 about 16 survive. One in a million. So every stroke sweeps the entire color space, collects the handful the hash will sign off on, and hands you the closest one to what you asked for. You aim. The chain decides. The palette you walk away with isn't one you chose — it's one you were issued, and it belongs to that picture alone. That's where the look comes from.
