PIPin — Pin any Mac window on top
Your powerful multitasking companion on macOS
PIPin is your ultimate multitasking companion: pin any window on top of your screen while you work on something else. Keep an eye on it, interact whenever you need. Most PiP tools freeze when you switch Spaces — you're stuck on a still frame. PIPin uses a private Virtual Display so the source never stops rendering. 🧙 ⌘-click any PIP to warp your cursor straight to the real window, interact without switch space. 📱 Stream to iPhone over local Wi-Fi, watch and control your window there.
Hey hunters! 👋 I built PIPin because I kept running into the same frustration: I'd pin a window on top with one of the usual tools, switch to a fullscreen app, and the mirror would freeze — completely defeating the point.
The root cause is that most tools use screen capture. The moment the source window is "off-screen" (like when it's on another Space), macOS stops asking it to render frames.
PIPin's fix is to create a hidden Virtual Display and move the window there. macOS treats it as physically connected hardware — so the source app never stops drawing, ever. The visible PIP is just a live mirror of that.
Some moments that made me go "ok, this is actually worth shipping":
🤖 I'm letting Claude Code run a long task, jump to my browser to look something up — and when it pauses asking for confirmation, I just ⌘-click the PIP. Cursor warps over instantly. I approve and keep going without ever leaving my Space. That one felt like a cheat code.
📈 I had a position I was watching closely. Pinned the chart in the corner while I kept working — caught the move the second it happened, without ever switching windows.
📖 Following a tutorial used to mean ⌘-Tab every 30 seconds. Now I just pin it. Sounds small. It's not.
▶️ Twitter/X, Reddit, Twitch — none of them support native PiP. PIPin doesn't care. If macOS can see it, PIPin can float it.
