Pilo · A menu-bar pigeon
A menu-bar Git companion that writes you a 6pm letter
A Mac menu-bar app that watches every Git repo on your machine. Writes you a 6pm letter recapping today. Catches leaked keys before push. Keeps your AI prompts as illustrated stamps. No LLM in the pipeline. No telemetry. Built like a letter, not a dashboard.
hey, maker here.
Pilo started as a side thing this winter. i'm a designer who codes mostly with Claude Code and Cursor these days, and i kept running into the same problem: AI doesn't reduce your projects, it multiplies them. by March i had 14 repos on my Mac. half were experiments i'd abandoned. the other half i couldn't remember which one i touched last week.
the GitHub contribution graph tries to help, but those little green squares are too vague. "5 commits Tuesday" — to which repo? did i push? is the draft saved? i needed something that actually held the map.
so i built Pilo. it's a menu-bar app that auto-finds your Git repos, sorts them by life stage (active / idle / dormant), and writes me a letter every evening at 6pm. literal letter. serif font. gold ornament lines. today's commits, today's drafts, which repos still have uncommitted work. archived in an inbox you can flip through like real mail.
it also looks at every git push before you fire it. 25 secret detection rules, 6 commit-guard categories. pure regex + entropy. no LLM in the pipeline. (in 2026 this feels a little heretical, i know.)
the aesthetic is on purpose. i got tired of every dev tool looking like a Bloomberg terminal. Pilo is shaped like a small post office. cream paper, Songti SC serif headings, a breathing pigeon mascot.
some honest disclosures:
• not notarized yet ($99/yr Apple Dev fee is on my list). first
launch needs right-click → Open
• macOS 14+ only
• i'm one person, expect rough edges
• the visual story is at xinxinmingde.com/pilo.html
brand promise: your code never leaves your Mac. no telemetry, no analytics, no accounts. two outbound calls (app update check + public/private pill from GitHub's public API). source on GitHub, MIT.
the roughest edges are the ones i can't see anymore. would love your eyes on it.
