Top comment

I made a small site called PicYu for learning Chinese through pictures and audio. You can tap things in a picture, hear the Chinese words and example sentences, then try a little practice.

Start with breakfast. Tap the buns in the bamboo steamer to hear 包子 (bāozi) and 我要两个包子 (“I would like two steamed buns”). The Chinese characters, pinyin, and English explanation sit beside the picture.

If you're an adult just starting Chinese and can follow English guidance, give the breakfast lesson a try. It opens in your browser without an account or payment. It might be a place to start if you're getting ready to travel or live in China.

After trying the breakfast lesson, would you want to learn another scene this way? Why?

I'd like to hear how it felt to use. Your feedback will help me decide whether to keep building PicYu and what to change next.

Who hunted PicYu?

PicYu was hunted by Janus. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
