Hello everyone, Picture the Words started from a simple idea: a word sticks better when it's tied to an image, not just a translation. This has stemmed from my own almost decade long Japanese language learning journey, and years of trial and error with various learning tools and resources. I found myself wanting to refer to relevant illustrations or images especially to remember words while prepping for the JLPT exams. This led me to create a visual language learning system which will eventually teach multiple languages from around the world. Each of the 1,000 concepts in this MVP version have their own unique illustration (currently — 4,000 more are in production) ; these can be studied in both Japanese→English and English→Japanese, with real example sentences and native audio so you get to experience how a word is actually used, and what it could mean in different contexts. The Chrome extension carries that over to anywhere you're reading — hover any word on any page and get the same illustrated lookup instantly, no switching tabs. The SRS features are built into both the website and the browser extension, so you can practice and review words at your own pace. The website itself is free to browse, and the site features are free to use up to 200 saved flashcards per language pair — no subscription, just a one-time unlock if you want the full set. Built solo, still early days, and I'd genuinely love to hear what's missing or what to fix first. Thank you.
