After months of building and refining, and thousands of test photos, I'm incredibly proud and excited to say that Photosynthesis is now available on the App Store! In this time of sky-high component prices, disposable tech, and 'photos' created by AI, Photosynthesis was born out of a desire to get more out of the real hardware we already own. As my family's designated photographer, how could I take the camera I already had in my pocket and upgrade it, without replacing it? It was one of those ideas that feels obvious once you've had it. Why couldn't I take a photo with each lens simultaneously, then stitch the detail of the closer lens onto the scope of the wider one? Fast forward through days of prototyping, weeks of building, months of refinement, and over 2,000 test photos, and it turns out... I could! And best of all, I could do it without any generative AI. Photosynthesis has been built from the ground up for 2-lens images, from capture to delivery. The viewfinder shows the frames of both lenses to line up your shot, then hit the shutter and the capture pipeline aligns and colour matches the two captures to combine them as seamlessly as possible. You then have a range of custom editing tools that enable you to edit the composite or each lens individually, as well as adjusting the alignment of the lenses, and 'painting' through one lens to reveal the other, to deal with any final parallax effects the app couldn't fix automatically. Oh, and there are filters too. And I'm not only the man behind the computer, Photosynthesis is now my own go-to camera app. No longer do I have to choose between context and clarity, whether I'm at a concert or documenting my one-year-old's first steps. Photosynthesis is available now on iPhone, and supports any 2+ lens model from the iPhone 11 onwards. I can't wait to see what you do with it! 😉
