PDF Compare

Compare text changes between two PDFs in your browser

PDF Compare is a free browser-based tool for comparing two PDFs with usable text layers. It reports Added, Removed, and Changed text with page references, which is useful for checking revised contracts, reports, policies, and other document versions. Each PDF can be up to 20 MB and 200 pages. It does not run OCR and is not a visual or pixel-by-pixel comparison tool.

Hi Product Hunt, I built PDF Compare after repeatedly running into a simple problem: two PDF versions look almost the same, but it takes too long to understand what actually changed in the text. The goal here was not visual diffing or OCR. I wanted a focused tool for comparing PDFs that already have usable text layers and then showing Added, Removed, and Changed text with page references. That makes it useful for things like revised contracts, reports, policies, and other document versions where the real question is: what wording changed between version A and version B? A few boundaries are important: - it works with existing text layers; - it does not perform OCR; - it is not a visual or pixel-by-pixel comparison tool; - each PDF can be up to 20 MB / 200 pages. Processing happens in the browser, and the current public tool is free to use. If you try it, I’d be especially interested in whether the scope feels clear and whether the results are easy to review.
