PathDeck
Visually manage your terminal PATH, aliases & env variables.
PathDeck is an ultra-lightweight (<1.4MB), open-source macOS studio built in pure SwiftUI. It replaces chaotic terminal editing with a beautiful drag-and-drop dashboard to manage your $PATH, toggle aliases, and secure environment keys behind Touch ID.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m a new developer, and like many people here, I reached a breaking point with my terminal configuration. Every time I needed to add a development path, toggle an old alias, or update an environment variable, I had to open up terminal editors, stare at a wall of text, and pray I didn't break my entire shell setup.
So, I decided to fix it by building a native control center on the outside.
PathDeck (V1.0.0) is a lightning-fast macOS utility that turns your chaotic shell profiles into a visual, interactive workspace. I built it with pure SwiftUI and zero third-party dependencies, keeping the distribution payload under an incredibly lean 1.4 Megabytes.
🚀 Core Features:
• The Path Stack: A visual, drag-and-drop list to natively reorder your system directory paths. It also runs real-time disk checks to flag dead or broken folders in red.
• Alias Studio: A searchable registry to instantly add, edit, or toggle custom terminal shortcuts on and off without deleting them from your code.
• Touch ID Vault: Protect your sensitive environment data (like production API keys) by masking them behind native biometric encryption using the Secure Enclave.
• Time Machine Rollbacks: An automated backup manager that duplicates your profile with timestamps before the app touches a single byte of data on disk.
⚠️ The "New Dev" Safety Disclaimer:
Because I’m a new developer, I am working around the clock to catch every edge case. On my machine, the app runs perfectly and has caused exactly zero digital explosions. Plus, the automated backups mean you have a safety net. But because we are dealing with your holy grail system files (~/.zshrc), please manually back up your terminal config before your first run just in case my code decides to launch your terminal profile into orbit!
🛡️ The Gatekeeper Situation:
PathDeck is completely free and community-driven, meaning it is not uploaded to Homebrew yet. Because of this, when you download the DMG, macOS Gatekeeper is going to have an absolute psychological breakdown. It will throw up a massive alert claiming it’s from an "Unidentified Developer." Please ignore the system panic attack! The project is 100% open-source. You don't have to trust a random binary; you can audit every single line of my Swift package contents right on GitHub to ensure you are completely relaxed.
To bypass the warning, just right-click the app icon and choose "Open" the first time, or use the classic terminal command: xattr -cr /Applications/PathDeck.app
PathDeck is live, fully open-source, and ready for you to experiment with. I would love to hear your feedback, feature requests, or bug reports in the comments below!
Cheers,
The PathDeck Maker
