Patents were an important part of my last startup, which was an MIT spinout focused on startup technology. We would spend thousands of dollars and many days doing search reports every time we had a new invention idea to file.
There are a few things that take time with patent searching:
1. Coming up with the right search terms
2. Combing through search results (including finding relevant passages).
3. Pulling together the key points from each patent.

This is the first launch of the product. It's pretty good at finding the relevant patents and pulling out relevant passages. The tool's ability to assess novelty and non-obviousness is still poor, but I'm hopeful of significant improvements in later editions.
