PatchDesign.AI
Free AI Design, Fast Production - Custom Patches Made Easy
PatchDesign.AI is the only AI tool purpose-built fo custom patch design, team coordination, and production. Dedicated tool-kit in the design studio guides the user, expert human reviews it, and dedicated admin dashboard allows for team roles, reminders, and status updates. Serves YMCA, scouts, sport teams, military, law enforcement, dojos, and more.
This project started entirely by accident. For the last few years, I’ve been a volunteer dad designing custom patches for our local YMCA father-child adventure program here in Southern California. If you've ever dealt with custom manufacturing, you know the pain: managing designs for dozens of events, chasing people over endless email threads, and dealing with slow, manual, expensive production pipelines.
At first, I tried using standard AI image generators to speed things up. But I quickly hit a massive technical wall: generic AI just creates a pretty picture - it doesn’t understand that a physical patch has to be stitched. A machine can't embroider a blurry gradient or a 1-pixel detail.
In teams/organizations, the collaboration across the patch designer, payment approver, and factory is unnecessarily overly complicated. Leading to frustration and missed deadline, very embarrassing not to have the patches on time for events!
That’s why I built PatchDesign.AI to actually understand the constraints of physical manufacturing.
Embroidery Guardrails: The tool checks that text and details aren't too small to sew, restricts palettes to real-world thread colors, and matches design styles to actual patch materials. What you see on screen is exactly what the factory can physically produce.
Collaboration Hub: Built-in admin dashboards let teams, scout troops, or sports leagues coordinate roles, reminders, and status updates all in one place.
Direct-to-Factory Pipeline: By bypassing the traditional middleman, it cuts production costs by 20–30%.
After leaving corporate America at the end of 2025, I decided to turn this tool into a real business.
Our philosophy: The design tool and studio are completely free for families, Scout troops, sports teams, and local non-profits. We monetize through (slim) margin patch production (we guarantee the lowest price in the market), a paid version for businesses, and an embeddable widget that lets any company drop the studio right onto their own website.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! How are you managing custom merchandise or team design workflows today? Thank you for checking us out! 🚀
