Panoply
Every file tool in one free app, nothing uploaded
One app for every file job you'd otherwise pay for or upload to a stranger's site. 31 tools: PDF merge, split, compress and OCR, image compress and resize to an exact KB, background removal, video and audio trim and convert, passport photos. A hotkey opens a command bar: drop a file or type "under 50 kb". Find any file as you type, see what fills your disk. Community plugins run sandboxed. Free, open source, Mac, Windows, Linux. Nothing is uploaded.
Hey Product Hunt, I'm Anzal.
I built Panoply because I kept uploading passports, leases and tax forms to random websites just to make them smaller, and paying monthly for tools that do one thing each.
Panoply puts all of that in one app that runs on your own computer. Press Option Space (Ctrl Alt Space on Windows and Linux), drop a file or type what you want, and it picks the tool. v0.2 adds file search as you type and a disk map that shows what's eating your space.
The part I care about most is plugins. Anyone can add a tool as a small WebAssembly plugin that only sees the files you hand it and has no network. Three ship in the box.
I benchmarked it against popular web tools on public test files, including where it loses: github.com/anzal1/panoply/blob/main/docs/research/benchmark-vs-web.md
It's a beta and unsigned for now, so Mac and Windows ask once on first open. Tell me what breaks, and which paid tool it should replace next.
